Hi, im currently studying biomedical science at queens and im in first year. I have achieved good a levels grades that will get me to medicine, but last year i didnt do so well in my ucat exam so was not able to get in. I want to reapply again to medicine this year and i want to ask if anyone knows any medical schools that will accept/consider my application even if im already enrolled at another course. The reason i chose this course is because im not guaranteered to do well in my ucat (which im sitting next week). And so if i get rejected for medicine this time around i can continue with the course im currently doing.
Hi @Modather - and welcome!

First of all, welcome to ifutures!
Concerning your question, I’m not sure how med schools will look at your application given that you have already had one unsuccessful shot at applying to medicine and are currently on a UG biomed course.
My first suggestion would be to talk to the medicine admissions people at QMUL (if you haven’t already done so) and ask them this question directly. Looking at the current situation regarding MB ChB courses on UCAS, there are some providers there who might be a bit more forgiving with UCAT scores, but since this information isn’t published (as far as I know) it’s hard to second-guess this.
Are you sure that it was your UCAT score that caused your rejection(s) rather than any other aspect of the application process - and specifically, the interview? And, if you’re sure it was the UCAT score, what are you doing this year in terms of preparation that you think will help you to get a better score?
To address your question directly, I think you’ll need to do a little “ringing around” to the admissions staff at some of the less-competitive MB ChB providers, especially those who are prepared to offer places based on UCAS tariff points rather than specific A-level grades, since these providers may have more “wiggle room” on UCAT scores.
Hope that helps - do post back here if you want to continue the discussion.
Hello!
I’m sorry to hear that you’re feeling disappointed with your UCAT score. It’s important to remember that many students successfully pursue biomedical sciences as their undergraduate degree before transitioning to graduate medicine.
Regarding reapplying, most universities require you to complete your current degree before applying. However, Cardiff is known for not placing a heavy emphasis on the UCAT, so it might be worthwhile to explore this university further.
In the meantime, I encourage you to focus on excelling in your undergraduate studies, as this will lay a solid foundation for your future medical degree. If you have any more questions, feel free to reach out!
Good point about Cardiff, @Kajol - this is important info for OP.
Cardiff is of course RG (Russell Group) - are non-RG universities any more flexible about UCAT that RG unis? My best information is that UCAT scores vary year to year, so a satisfactory score one year may not be satisfactory the following year (and vice versa too, of course).
Also OP could consider completing their ug course and doing pg medicine - but that’s quite a long (and expensive) road.
OP - we desperately need qualified doctors here in the UK. Don’t give up!
