Are consumers paying more for sustainable hotels?

In the ever-evolving landscape of the hospitality industry, sustainability in luxury hotels has shifted from being an option to a necessity. Recent consumer research emphasises that battling climate change is no longer a choice but a crucial element for the survival of businesses in travel and hospitality.

Deloitte’s 2023 Travel Industry Outlook reveals a growing demand for sustainable travel, with 68% of consumers considering climate change an emergency. While intentions to travel sustainably are clear, the willingness to pay more for eco-friendly options remains uncertain, especially with already high prices.

However, Wadha stated over 50% of global travellers express a greater determination to travel sustainably, with many willing to pay 38% more for eco-friendly choices, according to Expedia + Skift. With pent-up wanderlust post-pandemic, 49% of respondents are likely to spend more on their next trip.
