Innovators in the computer science field share their findings and thoughts during TED Talks. These events are great to make yourself noticeable with employers and to expand your network. Adding these events to your CV or even on Linkdn is so useful!

Definitely agree with networking, knowing people in the field definitely has benefits, you never know when they can offer you help, for e.g. when you are applying for jobs, they have know about a position that’s just opened where they work. Make sure to utilise the power of LinkedIn, you should add people asap after meeting them and every know and then, try to engage in a conversation and like/comment on their posts. Also its always a good idea to have some volunteering work highlighter on your CV, it shows you are about the community and choose to spend some of your free time, helping others. A cool project for computer science could be a website, you could easily set up a site where maybe you can showcase your portfolio or other projects you’ve done in the past and this could come in very handy during an interview. :+1:

I’d say that computer science is an area where it’s especially important to showcase your skills to future employers through projects.

As a minimum I’d say your own website where you showcase your work is essential. Hosting space doesn’t need to be super-expensive, and can be free (see, eg https://www.000webhost.com/).

Even if you don’t aspire to be a front-end developer, the ability to deal with html, css and js is always going to be useful.

For coding projects, a GitHub repo makes you look professional and enables a recruiter / employer to see what you’ve been working on in detail. You can link to this from your website.
