Hey folks
Exams are finishing up for a lot of us. Some people are already done, some are still getting through their final ones. Either way, it’s that time when everything starts to slow down, and suddenly you’re left wondering… what now?
After so many weeks of constant pressure, revision, and just trying to get through it all, having free time again can feel strange. You’d think it would feel great right away, but sometimes it just feels like you’re stuck between two gears.
And then comes the pressure. That little voice in your head that says, “Okay, what’s the next productive thing I should be doing?” Internships, side projects, learning something new, planning the future. It can be a lot, especially when you haven’t even fully recovered from exam stress.
So I just wanted to say this: it’s completely okay to not have a plan right now.
If you still have exams, focus on those. One at a time. That’s all that matters. You can figure the rest out after.
If you’re finished, take some time to rest. Not the kind of rest where you feel guilty about it. Real rest. Sleep. Breathe. Catch up on shows. Go outside. Do nothing for a bit and let that be enough.
When you feel ready, try something light. Maybe a little personal project, a free course you’ve been curious about, or just something fun like getting back into a hobby you had to put on hold during term.
If you want to start looking for experience, there are internships and placements out there, or even short-term volunteering or freelance gigs. But don’t panic if nothing lands right away. It’s not a race.
There’s no perfect way to spend your summer. You don’t need to prove anything. Sometimes the best thing you can do is give yourself space to rest and reset.
So where’s everyone at with things right now? Still in exams? Taking a break? Thinking about what to do next? Would love to hear what you’re planning, or even if you’re just figuring it out as you go.
