On July 7, 2023, the House of Lords debated a report from the House of Lords Communications and Digital Committee titled “At risk: Our creative future.” The report highlighted the importance of the creative sector to the UK economy and proposed reforms to support its growth. The government responded by pledging funding and outlining its ‘Creative industries sector vision’ to stimulate growth and enhance workforce skills. However, debates continue regarding the effectiveness of these measures.
Do you believe these measures are enough to address the challenges faced by the sector?
hat are your thoughts on the government’s response and the proposed goals in the ‘Creative industries sector vision’? Do you believe these initiatives will effectively address the challenges and foster sustainable growth in the creative sector?
I’m cautiously optimistic. The commitment to funding and acknowledgment of the sector’s importance are positive signs. However, there are concerns about rejected recommendations and lingering challenges like skills shortages. It’s crucial for the government to listen to industry feedback and remain adaptable for these initiatives to truly foster sustainable growth in the creative sector.
These industries are definitely at risk! I think since COVID and even before, they have been struggling because there just isn’t the support from the state, in the same way other industries are supported. It’s really important to keep these going. I think they are extremely undervalued in our country in particular, which is tremendously sad.
Absolutely spot on! It’s been tough, especially with COVID, and it’s clear these industries aren’t getting the support they desperately need. It’s a shame because they bring so much to our culture and economy
Creative industries are definitely underappreciated and underfunded. All they need to do is take on a valuable feedback. People within the industry are the best people when it comes to udnerstanding the industry and what it crucially needs for growth
