These are all really helpful tips! I usually get my news from social media and sometimes podcasts, but I’m wondering if I’m missing out on more in-depth analysis by not reading academic journals or engaging with think tank publications. Do you think it’s worth the time to dive into those more detailed sources, or are the daily news and podcasts enough to stay well-informed? I’m curious how much depth is really needed to keep up with current affairs.

I would always stress the importance of finding reliable sources when trying to get an understanding of current affairs. If I am purely seeking information I usually rely on renown websites like BBC News/World or Reuters.

If I am looking for analysis or opinion based articles I may look at articles in papers. Think tanks and public policy institutes also provide detailed analysis on specific issues.

I think it really doesn’t take too much time to get the gist. One thing I do recommend is following news accounts and other sources of information on social media. That way, whilst you are scrolling through you may stop to read an article.

Fully agree with you on this one! I usually make sure to read loads of newswires, as well as look out for youtube channels who offer unbiased opinions of the current affairs. It is important to remain mindful and skeptical about what can and cannot be trusted after all
