I have recently had to complete a video presentation for one of my summative assignments and thought it would be useful to share some tips on how to do better on this type of task. Disclaimer: I have not yet received my mark so do not blame me if my advice is not the best - just trying to offer what I think improved my presentation!
-
Prepare and rehearse: Practice your presentation multiple times before recording. Familiarize yourself with your material to appear confident and knowledgeable.
-
Know Your audience: Tailor your content to the interests and knowledge level of your audience. Use language and examples that resonate with them.
-
Engage your audience: Maintain eye contact with the camera to create a connection with your viewers. Use gestures and facial expressions to express enthusiasm and convey your message effectively.
-
Use visual aids: Incorporate visual aids such as slides, graphics, or videos to enhance your presentation and keep your audience engaged. Make sure visuals are clear and relevant to your topic.
-
Speak clearly and slowly: Enunciate your words clearly and speak at a moderate pace to ensure your audience can understand you. Avoid speaking too fast or mumbling.
-
Control your body language: Pay attention to your body language. Sit or stand up straight, and avoid fidgeting or distracting movements. Use gestures purposefully to emphasize key points.
-
Be authentic: Be yourself and let your personality shine through. Authenticity builds trust and makes your presentation more engaging.
-
Manage your environment: Choose a quiet, well-lit space for recording your presentation. Minimize background noise and distractions to maintain focus.
-
Time management: Practice pacing your presentation to fit within the allotted time. Keep track of time during your recording to ensure you don’t run over or rush through important points.
-
Seek feedback: After recording your presentation, ask for feedback from peers or mentors. Use their input to identify areas for improvement and refine your delivery for future presentations.
