Managing stress as a law student

Studying law automatically implies having a heavy schedule and workload. Thus, stress is something which you need to commonly face, especially during the exam season.

Although the idea of stress may be quite daunting, it can actually be beneficial for many. Stress is known for boosting performance while increasing alertness. It can also help with motivating you to reach your goals.

Here are some ways to manage your stress in order to make your life easier:

  • Time management: having a clear-cut schedule can often help with relieving stress. Here are some strategies you can use to improve this skill:

  • Being sociable: When we are stuck with multiple deadlines and hundreds of pages to catch up on, we may forget that going outside and communicating with others can be beneficial for our academic success. Meeting your friends for a drink or a coffee can give you some time to recharge your batteries and, when you resume your work, you are more likely to feel more energetic…

  • Self-care: Sitting at your desk in front of your monitor for several hours a day can undoubtedly have significant effects on your body and mind. That is why you should try to take a break from time to time in order to do things that you enjoy such as going to the gym, practising one of your hobbies or meditating.

  • Find some pleasure in challenging times: I know, it sounds tough. However, one piece of advice which I have found quite useful is learning to enjoy doing hard things. After all, studying leads you to cultivate your knowledge and consequently boosts your self-confidence. Therefore, instead of seeing the books on your table as a duty, you should think that they are just one step towards reaching your ultimate goals.
