Masters in AI ethics and regulation

Given the rapid advancement made in AI, there is an increasing worry and subsequent need for its regulation to ensure that any negative side effects are mitigated and that AI is used for the benefit of humanity. Numerous universities are offering masters courses which focus on the regulation of AI.

These courses typically look at a range of aspects when considering the ethics, regulation and legislation of AI. For example, courses will involve modules that cover these aspects:

  • Algorithmic bias - looking at how human bias may be reflected by algorithms, subsequently seeking methods to mitigate introduction of such bias

  • Legislation implementation - examining how laws and government policy can be formulated to combat negative effects of AI

  • Data ethics - examining how data mining, analysis and big data has the negative potential to worsen inequality, and looking at ways to mitigate this
