The 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp is approaching on January the 27th, many world leaders, including our King Charles, are expected to attend the remembrance held at Auschwitz. Israel, however, has reportedly not contacted Poland over attending the remembrance, it is believed that this is over Poland pledging to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu in compliance with the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrant out for him.

This is a really tense and significant development. It’s a shame that such an important anniversary is being overshadowed by political and legal issues. The Auschwitz liberation commemoration is a moment to reflect on history and honor the victims, but it seems geopolitical tensions are making that difficult. I wonder how this will affect Israel-Poland relations moving forward.
