New product combining blood and plasma in one bag saves lives

A recent study led by Queen Mary University of London, in collaboration with NHS Blood and Transplant and Barts Health NHS Trust, found that a new blood product combining red blood cells and plasma in a single bag improves survival in cases of major trauma injuries. The study involved 909 patients treated by Air Ambulances in England from 2018 to 2020. Chief Investigator Dr. Laura Green sees the new product as a promising potential lifesaving treatment outside of hospitals, especially in urgent pre-hospital settings.

Do you believe the practical benefits of a single transfusion in urgent settings could significantly enhance patient outcomes?
