Pharmacy First launch: Service will deliver ‘faster, simpler’ patient care

Health leaders across England have welcomed the launch of the Pharmacy First service, with over 90% of pharmacies participating in this “ground-breaking initiative.” The service allows pharmacists to assess and treat patients with seven common conditions, aiming to free up 10 million GP appointments annually.

Health Secretary Victoria Atkins views the service as beneficial for patients and the NHS, emphasising the goal of delivering faster, simpler, and fairer access to care. Chief Pharmaceutical Officer for England David Webb highlights the expanded clinical services, providing patients with more convenient options without needing to book appointments.
