Roma: an eye opener to Mexican history and culture

“Roma” is a film released in 2018, that is set in the early 70s in Mexico City. It tackles societal issues - some of which remain today, and may have worsened - such as migrant labour, exploitation, class disparities and gender roles. These themes are displayed via different means throughout the film; mostly through the protagonist “Cleo”.

It is available on Netflix, and a MUST watch. You do not need to speak Spanish as subtitles are available in English. It deals with sensitive (but real) topics in an informative yet ethical manner. To read further discussion about this, click below:

Such an interesting film to watch , as a Mexican who doesn’t live there anymore its eye opening to see how many of these issues are still in place now days.
