Statins Lower Risk of Dying in Older Adults with Chronic Kidney Disease

Older adults with chronic kidney disease who took statins had a 9% lower risk of death from any cause, according to a study of 14,828 participants over 65 without cardiovascular disease history. The statin use also showed a 4% lower risk of major adverse cardiovascular events. While the study supports statin benefits, caution is advised as it primarily involved older white men, limiting generalisability. Experts emphasise the importance of preventive care for chronic kidney disease patients. However, further research, including randomised trials, is needed to confirm findings and determine optimal statin therapy details.
