Summer intern saved the world (of PC gaming)

At the turn of the century, a game development studio called Valve got into a nasty legal battle with a large French company called Vivendi.

The ensuing court battle threatened to bankrupt Valve, until a summer intern called Andrew, working for Valve’s lawyers, spotted a crucial document among the millions of documents that Vivendi had submitted to the court. The original dispute was over action that Vivendi had taken in South Korea - so nearly all of the document they submitted were in Korean. It helped that Andrew was a native Korean speaker.

Valve won their case in court and went on to launch the digital online games store Steam.
