Things I Wish I Knew When I Was at University

Are you ready to take charge of your biosciences journey and make each lab, essay, and coursework count? :rocket::microscope:

  1. Master Your Lab Skills:
    • Ensure your lab skills are officially recognised by getting them signed off. If you haven’t received a checklist, check your university’s website. Having most skills signed off is crucial; otherwise, you might find yourself doing extra labs during the busy third year, coinciding with your dissertation and exams!
  2. Schedule 1:2:1s with Professors for Coursework:
    • Maximise your coursework performance by booking one-on-one sessions with your professors. Their valuable feedback can significantly enhance the quality of your work.
  3. Do Practice Essays:
    • Practice with old essay questions provided by your module leaders. Seek feedback from professors, they all mark differently, so learning their preferred essay style is important to get a great grade.
  4. Designate a Well-Deserved Rest Day:
    • Set aside a dedicated rest day (i do Sundays) free from studying or university work. Use this time to socialise, indulge in hobbies, or simply take care of personal tasks like laundry. Taking a break is essential to prevent burnout !

What strategies do you already use, and which of these are you excited to incorporate into your study routine?

which did you think was the most important?

I always agree my essay topics with my lecturers :hugs: This way when I’m writing those i get to avoid worrying about my topic being too vague/narrow/not approved. 1-2-1s also help quite a lot!

1:2:1s with my teachers saved my grades honestly ! if i could only recommend one tip it would be this one
