Tips for building a strong resume

  1. Choose the right format: Depending on your experience level and industry, opt for a chronological, functional, or combination resume format.
  2. Tailor your resume to the job: Customize your resume for each job application by highlighting relevant skills, experiences, and achievements that align with the job description.
  3. Use a professional layout: Keep your resume clean, well-organized, and easy to read. Use consistent formatting, clear headings, and bullet points to highlight key information.
  4. Highlight your achievements: Instead of just listing job duties, focus on quantifiable achievements and outcomes in each role. Use numbers and percentages to demonstrate your impact.
  5. Emphasize relevant skills: Include a skills section that showcases your relevant technical, soft, and transferable skills. Tailor this section to match the requirements of the job you’re applying for.
  6. Include relevant experience: List your work experience in reverse chronological order, starting with your most recent job. Include the job title, company name, location, dates of employment, and brief descriptions of your responsibilities and achievements.
  7. Education and certifications: Include your educational background, including degrees, certifications, and relevant coursework.
  8. Use keywords: Incorporate keywords from the job posting into your resume to ensure it gets past applicant tracking systems (ATS) and stands out to hiring managers.
  9. Proofread and edit: Thoroughly proofread your resume for typos, grammatical errors, and formatting issues.
