Top websites to use for researching law firms

Applying for a vacation scheme involves thoroughly researching a law firm and the kind of work it conducts. Thus, here are some useful websites that I have found very useful during my research process:

  1. Chambers Student: one of the first websites that I visit when I want to find out more about a law firm, Chambers Student offers an overview of a firm’s main practice areas, the culture of the firm, its values, number of training contracts offered and testimonials from current trainees.

  2. Chambers UK: provides an overview of the sectors which a firm covers as well as where its practice areas are placed in the national/international rankings, mentioning the leading solicitors in those fields.

  3. Legal 500: Although it is quite similar to Chambers UK, apart from offering a ranking of a firm’s practice areas, I feel like the Legal 500 offers more in-depth information about the work that is conducted within the firm, including testimonials from clients and work highlights for each area.

  4. Bright Network: the website posts interviews with current trainees, providing interesting perspectives coming from junior members of several law firms and also includes tips to keep in mind when applying for a Training Contract/Vacation Scheme.

  5. LawCareers .net: Great overviews of law firms as well as a list of deadlines for Vacation Scheme/Training Contract applications. Their podcast series is also worth following: always some great stuff in there!
