What to Do After Applying for a Job: Proactive Steps

Hey everyone,

So you’ve submitted your job application, and now comes the nerve-wracking waiting game, right? Well, not necessarily! While waiting for a response, there are some proactive steps you can take to enhance your chances and demonstrate your interest in the position (I have done this and I got the internship ) :

 Firstly, Follow Up with the Hiring Manager: If you’re eager to show your enthusiasm for the role, consider reaching out directly to the person who posted the job or the company’s Human Resources (HR) representative. You can do this through a direct message on the platform where the job was posted, LinkedIn, or via email. Introduce yourself briefly, express your interest in the position, and highlight why you’re a good fit based on your qualifications and experiences.

:v: If you are unable to LinkedIn Outreach: Another effective approach is to find the HR person responsible for hiring at the company. You can do this by visiting the company’s LinkedIn page, navigating to the “People” section, and searching for HR-related titles like “Recruiter” or “Talent Acquisition Specialist.” Once you’ve found the right person, send them a polite message expressing your interest in the position and reiterating your qualifications.

:love_you_gesture: If you are unable to message them (because you don’t have LinkedIn Premium) Email Communication: If you prefer a more formal approach, you can visit the company’s website and search for the HR contact details. Look for an “About Us” or “Contact” page where you might find the email address of the HR department or a specific HR manager. Craft a professional email expressing your interest in the role and attaching your resume and cover letter for reference.

:love_you_gesture:  Okay so once you have messaged them and receive no answer Follow-Up: After reaching out, give the hiring manager or HR representative about a week to respond. Remember, they’re likely juggling multiple responsibilities and may need some time to review applications. If you don’t hear back within a week, don’t panic! It’s perfectly acceptable to send a polite follow-up message to inquire about the status of your application. Keep your follow-up brief and courteous, expressing your continued interest in the position.

:raised_hand_with_fingers_splayed: after you have done all that Be Patient: Finally, remember that patience is key throughout this process. Hiring decisions often take time, and recruiters may need to sift through numerous applications before reaching a decision. While waiting for a response, continue your job search and stay proactive in seeking out new opportunities.

Thanks for sharing these tips! I recently applied for an internship, and I’m definitely feeling the nerves. It’s reassuring to hear your advice on what to do while waiting for a response. do you have any suggestions on how to tailor the follow-up message to make sure it stands out without being too pushy?
