What to do if you are stuck on an essay

Encountering writer’s block is a common hurdle, even for seasoned writers. I have been faced with this issue many times considering the numerous essay I have had to write during university. However, it is not impossible to successfully get over it. Here are ten strategies to help you overcome it:

1. Start early: Give yourself ample time to explore different concepts by beginning the brainstorming process as soon as possible. Avoid rushing or settling for the first idea that comes to mind.

2. Trust yourself: Embrace your unique voice and ideas. Refrain from comparing yourself to others and recognize the value in your perspective.

3. Keep calm: Remember that writer’s block is a common obstacle, even for seasoned writers. Stay calm and remind yourself that it’s a normal part of the writing process.

4. Seek input: Discuss your paper with friends, family, or even your pet to gain fresh perspectives. Sometimes, an outside viewpoint can offer valuable insights.

5. Find inspiration: Listen to music to stimulate creativity. Experiment with different genres or playlists to see what works best for you.

6. Consult your teacher: If you’re feeling stuck, don’t hesitate to seek guidance from your teacher. They can provide helpful advice and support.

7. Take a break: Step away from your writing and engage in activities you enjoy to clear your mind. A short break can often provide fresh perspective.

8. Embrace revision: Remember, you can always revise your ideas later on. Your first draft is just a starting point.

9. Don’t sweat the details: Don’t worry about grammar and spelling in your first draft; focus on capturing your ideas. You can always refine them later.

10. Practice patience: Generating ideas takes time, so be patient with yourself. Trust that inspiration will come with persistence.

Not worrying about grammar at first and also leaving enough time to finish it is crucial! It’s very useful to just start writing down any ideas you may have. Then, after a day or two, these ideas may as well inspire you to write even better arguments!
