Where to find placement opportunities?

A year in the industry is a great way to not only take a break from studies, but also gain some hands-on experience in the industry you’re interested in. However, many students struggle with finding a placement that suits them and universities rarely provide great advice on websites where placements can be discovered. Here’s the list of posssible websites where you could roam and find a placement that suits you:

  1. https://www.prospects.ac.uk

It is a great source where you can find not only year-long placements but also short internships and even graduate jobs. The website is also full of tips on finding a placement and making your CV to stand out.

  1. Student Placements, Internships and Graduate Job Search | RateMyPlacement

A great website that I am sentimental about, as that’s where I found an advert for the placement i later undertook! It’s a good website with placements from small to big companies. A great filter sytem allows you to sort opportunities by regions and industries as well.

  1. Login | Bright Network

Same as prospects.ac.uk website, it’s full of both undergraduate and post-graduate opportunities. It is used by many big companies, and also allows you to search for a specific employer to explore opportunities they have available (if you already know which one are you interested in the most).

  1. https://joinhandshake.com/

Handshake is somewhat an alternitive for linked in but just for students. You are allowed to create a profile, fill it in with your background, experiences, and skills, to then attrack a potential employer! It is full of both long-term and short internships, and in general is a great place to find opportunities.

  1. LinkedIn Login, Sign in | LinkedIn

The infamous LinkedIn is one of the best ways to find placements and internships. If you don’t have an account, go and create one now, as it is arguarbly one of the most important social medias to have in 21st century. Here you can find, internships, placements, graduate jobs, as well as chat and connect with professionals in the industry.

  1. Specific company’s website

You will be surprised to know how many opportunities aren’t advertised on any external websites. To avoid getting applications from students who aren’t interested in their company specifically (people that are regarded as ‘I just want an internship, doesn’t matter where’), many big companies only advertise placements on their own websites. So if you do have a specific company in mind, go to their website and you may find a perfect opportunity!

So, what are you waiting for? Time to find a perfect opportunity for you!
