A simple test for breast cancer

A study suggests that a simple fingerprint test could potentially screen women for breast cancer. Researchers at Sheffield Hallam University analysed sweat on the fingers of 15 women using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionisation/mass spectrometry. The study, which included patients with benign, early, or metastatic breast cancer, applied machine learning and achieved a 98% accuracy rate in predicting the category of cancer. While current screening methods like biopsy and mammogram are effective, they can be uncomfortable and culturally unacceptable.
