Scientists have developed MELD Graph, an AI-powered tool that detects 64% of brain abnormalities linked to epilepsy that human radiologists often miss. Created by researchers at King’s College London and UCL, the tool improves the detection of focal cortical dysplasias (FCDs), a major cause of epilepsy.
By analyzing MRI data from 1,185 participants across 23 epilepsy centers, MELD Graph enhances diagnosis accuracy, speeds up treatment, and could save the NHS up to £55,000 per patient. The tool is open-source, with workshops training clinicians worldwide. Experts believe it could significantly improve surgical outcomes and reduce epilepsy-related suffering.
