Brief Guide to a Good Presentation Pt.1

A good presentation must have these 4:

  1. Clear
  2. Scientifically Sound
  3. Engaging
  4. Creative

In this Part 1, we will be covering the first two:

1. Clear:

  • Neat, tidy and uniform slides (consider diversity)
  • Good figure/text balance
  • Reasonable length (10-15 slides-1 slide per minute)
  • Use headings:
    • Introduction (2-5 slides)
    • Findings (3-7 slides)
    • Conclusion/ethical concerns/future work (2-4 slides)
  • When presenting:
    • Try to learn your script
    • Minimise fluffing
    • Speak clearly

2. Scientifically Sound:

  • Only use appropriate sources(peer-reviewed)
  • Ensure the information you convey is correct
  • Reference correctly and in the correct and uniform format
  • Read papers thoroughly and ensure you understand them
  • When you present data(graph, tables):
    • Make sure they are clear and visible and have all their parts
    • Clear caption
    • Be able to explain what is shown
