British Airways, offers opportunities to work in a whole host of teams across the organisation. Check out the schemes applicable to politics students below:

Finance

During the 3-year programme, you will immediately enter the first of three roles with real responsibility, business partnering critical areas of the British Airways business. You could be influencing investment decisions on our onboard products, analysing commercial decisions on network growth opportunities, or negotiating with a vast supplier network to maintain cost competitiveness

The programme will enable you to hone your financial acumen and will facilitate you becoming a leader of the future. Your dedicated graduate team and line manager will work with you on personalised development plans, ensuring you extract maximum value from your placements. British Airways will also sponsor and support you to gain your preferred professional finance qualification – CIMA, ACCA or ACA (ICAEW) – so that you can follow in the footsteps of their most successful graduates, whether it’s into Finance Business Partnering, Fleet Planning, Strategy or Financial Reporting.

Future leaders

Imagine leading a group of 75 Cabin Crew, or escorting the media on overseas trips as a PR Manager. Picture yourself delivering key parts of the British Airways business plan to impact on the bottom line. How about delivering major change projects to transform the customer experience at Heathrow? Or even influencing the investment in, and planning of, our aircraft fleet? There are so many ways you could help the organisation progress as a business on this programme.

Over the course of three years you will enjoy hands-on learning and responsibility through a series of placements. During Year 1, you will develop a deep understanding of us, the airline industry and our front line operation through placements in Heathrow Airport as Customer Experience Representatives and in the skies as cabin crew. We’ll set challenges that embed your learning, and also highlight areas of improvement to grow across the scheme.

In Year 2, your responsibility, exposure and autonomy will grow. You’ll learn how to make the most of your specific, individual talents – the unique things you bring to the business. In Year 3, your development will focus on sharpening your strategic thinking, and ensuring you’re ready to transition into the business. There will be opportunities to reflect on your strengths, individual needs and prospective career pathways.

Logistics

During the course of the two year Logistics Programme, you will have the opportunity to have two to three placements across various areas of our business. Your induction programme will introduce you to the breadth of experiences that you can expect to have that define working for one of the world’s largest air cargo companies (IAG Cargo).

You’ll then start the first of a series of placements – these are real jobs with real responsibility and you’ll be supported to make a contribution from day 1. Placements are diverse; recent examples include rotations in Network management, Transformation, Customer and Infrastructure, Commercial, People and Internal Communications, Spanish Hub & Operations, IT, and Worldwide operations.

Commercial Business

One of the most exciting opportunities British Airways offers.

Over 3 years, you’ll complete 3 very different and unique roles across multiple Commercial departments with the aim of developing you to become a commercial expert and leader of the future.

These 12-month placements will challenge and inspire you and give you exposure to every facet of BA’s global commercial business, often with some international travel along the way. Your experience will take you on some amazing journeys within some of these teams:

  • Revenue Management: as well as understanding how an airline drives revenue and makes profit, you will be personally owning decisions on how products are priced, decide on their availability and how BA exploits and develop ancillary sales for a specific region in the world.
  • Sales: you’ll represent BA and work directly with their customers, understanding their needs and negotiating deals on behalf of British Airways, Iberia and American Airlines.
  • Retail & CRM: you will experience how BA attracts new customers, maximise retention and nurture the relationship with their customers.
  • Digital Product & Experience: not only will you get expertise in agile, scrum and product management, but you will be delivering products and features on website ba.com and the BA app that drive customer value.
  • Commercial Strategy: At the heart of Commercial, you will gain experience in defining strategies and goals and working across Commercial to drive them forward.
  • Distribution and Payments: you will help to deliver smart product distribution strategies and deliver innovative new payment solutions.

Ambitious and data-centric thinking is the norm for their Commercial team and you’ll find many different ways to make your ideas count.

Operations Planning

With three placements you will rotate through a planning and delivery function within either Airports, Flight Crew or Cabin Crew as well as Resource Allocation for Above and Below the Wing at London Heathrow. Throughout these placements, you will find out and contribute to how the resourcing supply and demand mechanics work, whilst being able to physically see and touch those areas BA is accountable for.

You will work in a directorate that has a direct impact on the British Airways operation, and will learn and apply new skills in subjects such as:

  • Workforce planning and deployment
  • Post operational analysis
  • Stakeholder relationship management
  • People and change management
  • Continuous improvement

These placements will develop your ability to work with a range of people from different business areas, using a variety of technologies, methods, and measures to meet changing business needs. You will do this alongside building your experience of working with highly skilled resource teams and the resource systems they use.
