Education: Newly-qualified teachers could earn £30k starting salary

Education Minister Paul Givan has proposed a starting salary of £30,000 for newly-qualified teachers in Northern Ireland, following a three-year pay freeze. This offer aims to align with salaries in England and comes after prolonged negotiations with the five main teaching unions, which had threatened strike action. Jacquie White of the Ulster Teachers Union welcomed the offer, highlighting the recognition of a recruitment and retention crisis in the profession. Justin McCamphill of NASUWT emphasized the importance of ongoing efforts to avoid future industrial action and called for sustained pay restoration. The proposal, representing a 24.3% increase from the current starting salary, is subject to consultation with union members and aims to stabilize the education system while fostering world-class education in Northern Ireland.

It’s honestly a great starting salary! Especially knowing that many people only get to start on 25k in most cases
