Evolving use of Artificial intelligence within the professional world (Civil engineering)
Artificial intelligence has been around for a long period of time, and it is constantly growing. Quite recently AI has taken significant strides, with increase in popularity within the commercial and professional world, there has been an increase in usage both by normal everyday users and workers. More specifically, Its application in civil engineering is becoming more prevalent. From enhancing design processes to optimising construction and maintenance activities, AI holds the potential to revolutionise the way we approach our projects.
This, however, has ignited discussions regarding how AI can possibly replace workers within the industry. It’s an important topic that warrants careful consideration and thoughtful discussion. While the integration of AI brings about increased efficiency and innovative solutions, there are concerns about the potential impact on employment within the field.
Needless to say, artificial intelligence is extremely useful within the civil engineering industry. It can be used to create design ideas and optimise existing designs, analyse structures, efficiently plan and manage projects and much more. This can be used by engineering firms to argue that some jobs are no longer needed to be filled by human workers, instead they can use AI to replace them, saving them a lot of money and time. However, AI does have drawbacks. For example, when doing highly complicated calculations during analysis of structures, AI can easily make mistakes, therefore it is essential that it is re-evaluated by a human as miscalculations involving structures could have devastating effects and could cost lives.
In conclusion, whilst Artificial intelligence continues to improve and become more utilised, it can be said that it brings helps make the workflow of humans much more efficient. However, it will not fully proficient enough to be able to replace workers fully, especially in a profession like civil engineering where lives are at stake. Instead, AI should be used alongside humans to attain peak efficiency, so firms save money in the long term as time is utilised and not wasted.
