🚀 Freshers Week Survival Guide

Welcome to one of the most exciting weeks of your university life: Freshers Week! it’s going to be an unforgettable mix of excitement, confusion and probably a bit of chaos. This guide will help you navigate through the madness! Here are the essentials to ensure you survive and thrive during Freshers Week!

1. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!

Whether you’re enjoying nightlife or just running around campus, keeping hydrated is crucial. Drink plenty of water!

2. Meet your flatmates

First impressions count! Don’t be shy to knock on doors and introduce yourself because these will be the people you live with for the year! You never know who might become your new best friend or study buddy. Why not create a flat group chat and organise a flat dinner!

3. Say yes (but also know when to say no)

You’ll be bombarded with invites to events, parties and gatherings. Say yes to as many as you can - this is the perfect time to meet new people and make friends. But also listen to your body and mind. If you need a night in with Netflix and a pizza, that’s totally okay! Remember, it’s okay to have boundaries and take a breather when you need it.

4. Prep for freshers flu

It’s real and it’s unavoidable! Stock up on vitamin C, tissues and comfy PJs. A little self-care goes a long way in keeping you in tip-top shape.

5. Stay safe, party smart!

Remember to never walk alone at night, find a buddy to stick with. This can be the new friends you made! Keep an eye on your drinks and know the safe routes to walk around and keep a list of emergency contacts!

6. Get to know your campus

Take a wander around campus, and find your lecture halls and library. Know where things are will make the start of lectures and seminars much smoother.

7. Self-care is key

Eat well, get some sleep and take breaks when you need them. Your health is your top priority.

8. Your phone!

In this day and age, everyone uses their phone! Capture the memories, they’re great to look back on. And stay connected! Make sure to have the numbers of a few new friends, your flatmates, and any emergency contacts saved on your phone. You never know when you might need them.

9. Ask for help when you need it

Feeling overwhelmed? Homesick? It’s completely normal. Your university will have many support services - from counselling to academic help. Don’t hesitate to reach out. Everyone needs a little help sometimes.

10. Freshers bands

Don’t buy freshers bands unless you know that you will be attending to many events. They can be expensive and a waste of money if you end up not going to the events.

11. Go to the Freshers Fair

Free chocolate, endless flyers and enough pens to last you through your degree - Freshers Fair is a goldmine. Sign up to societies than you’ll realistically attend, you can always filter them out later!

12. Be yourself

The best way to make friends and enjoy Freshers Week is to be genuine. Smile, be kind and be yourself! You’re awesome and the world deserves to see it!

Conclusion

Freshers Week is your golden ticket to try new things, meet new people and make unforgettable memories. This is just the beginning of an amazing journey!

The freshers flu is so vital to be aware of. I was so naïve and thought I wouldn’t get it, then it knocked me off my feet. I remember all my flatmates being ill at the same time. Also remember to get it checked out if it persists as may be something more serious !
