Fruit used in Chinese medicine shows promise as treatment

A recent study has revealed that Schisandrin B, a compound found in a fruit utilised in Chinese medicine known as the five-flavour berry or magnolia berry, exhibits remarkable effectiveness against colon cancer. Particularly notable is its efficacy against late-stage colon cancer cells.

While the plant containing this compound is readily available online, caution is advised as it should only be consumed under medical supervision due to potential adverse drug interactions. Colorectal cancer, including colon cancer, ranks as the second most common cause of cancer-related deaths among both males and females according to the American Cancer Society. With an estimated 53,010 deaths from colorectal cancers projected this year in the United States, the significance of potential treatments like Schisandrin B is paramount in combating this disease.
