My parents’ idea of ‘if you work hard, you’ll get what you want’ doesn’t really work any more. The older generations’ expectation that if you’ve got a ‘good degree and good skills you’ll be fine’ is just no longer tenable. I feel like I’m throwing myself at a brick wall.
The job market is seriously brutal right now! It’s so frustrating to have worked hard, done internships, and still struggle to find a decent job. It feels like no matter what you do, you’re just up against a wall. I totally get why people are feeling stuck or even going back to school just to try and get ahead. Something really needs to change because this isn’t sustainable for any of us.
I hear you. It’s tough out there, even with hard work and internships. Many people are considering going back to school to improve their chances. We need changes in the job market to help everyone.
And employers say that it’s really hard to find the right people that they want:
The UK has one of the largest talent shortages in Europe: 80% of employers said they could not find employees with the right skills in 2023, up from just 19% in 2018.
