This article highlights how gender balance is changing in politics , and reveals how the 2019 intake of MPs had the highest proportion
of women ever.
The article is important as it not just demonstrates the need for men and women to have equal opportunities in influencing policies and be elected to parliament but also highlights the need for women and their issues to be represented in parliament.
The article clearly shows that there is still more work to do , however it highlights positive progress among parties and I think it will be interesting to see how this changes in 2024/2025.
Furthermore, the article also talks about the representation of women in cabinet , which is crucial as it brings women closer to the decision making process providing them a say on national matters. Sunak’s cabinet includes 8 female ministers which accounts for just 22% compared to the near 55% of the UK population.
