How to talk politics at Christmas?

I find this article really interesting, as politics students we often find ourselves picked on to answer in political debates, give our opinions and state our solutions to problems.

Personally, I find it difficult talking about politics with family and friends because not only do I find it quite tedious having studied it for so long, I also find that I am constantly stepping on eggshells.

There is no doubt that political debate can be good and can be healthy, it allows us to share opinions on controversial topics and help inform other people about what is going on in the world. But when people are determined not to listen or unable to hold a healthy debate it can be less productive.

Some families are obviously more political than others, with arguments erupting over the Christmas table and refusing to speak to each other after arguments get personal , This article offers some tips on how to avoid this and encourages healthy debate.

This is not just useful for politics and Christmas but the advice can be applied to many different situations. The main focus is about respect, respecting people’s opinions but also the background to how they formed that opinion.
