Keeping your profile active: 8 Posts to Share on LinkedIn

Posting on LinkedIn can be daunting or seem irrelevant to your actual career progression, but it is a powerful networking tool that should not be dismissed. From applying directly to jobs on the site to a recruiter searching up your name online, it’s important to have a LinkedIn presence that shows off your best assets! However, you may be at a loss of what is appropriate to post or just feel plain uninspired, so here’s some ideas of what you can post on your feed:

1. New job updates! :chart_increasing:

This is the most obvious for LinkedIn because it showcases your career progression but it also shows your appreciation for the company. It’s also a great space to write about what skills you’re applying in the position in case you move onto other employment.

2. Networking and festival events you attended! :handshake:

Sharing events shows that you’re an active member of your community! This lets recruiters know of your character and can show them that you are dedicated to your career path outside of traditional work experience. These posts can also be helpful if you are looking to connect with any of the people that you spoke with at the event because it shows that you were actually in attendance and gives the speakers and event managers a good shout out.

3. Personal projects! :technologist:

Maybe you’re writing a book, maybe you’re starting a YouTube channel, maybe you’re coding a video game! There’s a plethora of hobbies and personal achievements that have transferable skills that you’ll want to show off for your next job. Showcasing personal projects also shows that you’re not idle with your time and are always motivated to learn something new!

4. Finishing your dissertation! :memo:

A dissertation may be your largest project to date and it is worth showing off! This is great for showing what kind of specialist knowledge you have and what you are personally interested in pursuing.

5. Completing your degree! :graduation_cap:

This is another massive accomplishment that you should be proud of! This is where you can detail any specifics of you degree that you’ve achieved or any honors you’re graduating with. It’s a great way to look back at everything you’ve learned that might not fit on a CV.

6. Volunteering events! :busts_in_silhouette:

Just like networking and festivals, this is a great way to show how you show up for the community. It speaks to your personal values, but is also a great way to get your foot in the door at wherever place or industry you are volunteering in. It also might encourage others to join your cause too!

7. Reposting from other people and companies you’ve worked with! :woman_office_worker:

This is an easy way to populate your feed while also showing support for the company and people you already love! It’s great to spread the word about events or initiative and really shows your appreciation for the original poster.

8. Examples of your portfolio work! :card_index_dividers:

You might not get to attach a portfolio to every job that you apply to, but a lot of applications have space for your LinkedIn url. This gives you an accessible space to display the beautiful work you’ve done when you’re not able to. It also saves you from having to clutter previous CV space.
