Wow, these resources are super helpful! It’s great to see such a variety of opportunities, from corporate sustainability roles to hands-on fieldwork with wildlife. I’ve always been drawn to the idea of working for an NGO, like Fauna & Flora, especially since they focus on biodiversity and conservation, which is something I’m really passionate about.

Do you think starting with a role in a charity or NGO would provide good experience for eventually moving into a more corporate sustainability role, or would those paths require really different skill sets?

It depends on what your role at the NGO is! There are plenty of office roles at NGOs that will give you transferable skills into a more strictly corporate jobs, but working in a fundraising or educational role at the NGO won’t be as similar. You also may need specific ESG training for corporate roles or a more business background.

Interesting to see the range of jobs available in this sector. Has the introduction of ESG led to greater opportunities in this sector ?

I definitely think so! The green job market has grown around 10% in the last few years and about 40% in the last ten. So many companies are looking to fill sustainability advisor and other the related positions because they have seen the ongoing climate crisis and feel the social pressure to be more environmentally friendly.
