Politics to keep you on the pulse of the planet: The Guardian’s Politics Weekly UK

In the fast-paced world of academia, staying informed about current events can a daunting task, especially for students with demanding schedules. I’m sure we can both agree that there are other degrees that have more intensive schedules, but the do-it-yourself style that sees geographers often working independently means that you’ll need to find some reliable sources to keep you in the loop, a must for geographers who need to stay in tune to the dynamic world of current affairs. One solution to this conundrum for UK politics is The Guardian’s Politics Weekly UK podcast.
One of the key merits of the podcast is its concise yet comprehensive coverage of the most pressing stories that have unfolded throughout the week in the United Kingdom. As a geography student, it is crucial to understand the intricacies of domestic politics, as they often have a profound impact on global issues, from environmental policies to international relations.
Lasting a typical 30-45 minutes, the podcast aligns perfectly with the hectic schedule of a university student. Released weekly, it provides a manageable commitment for students who always seem to have deadlines looming. This digestible length means that it could be listened to as you walk to Uni, on the bus, or just as a way to break up your work whilst not slipping out of that intellectual headspace!
The diversity of topics covered in The Guardian’s podcast also caters to the broad interests of geography students. From environmental policies and socio-economic issues to geopolitical events, the podcast offers a well-rounded perspective on the political landscape. This helps geography students connect the dots between political decisions and their implications on geographical matters.
To conclude, The Guardian’s Politics Weekly UK podcast is a great tool for geographers, and for postgrads, to help navigate the turbulent waters of domestic politics on their own schedule, as at least for me at Uni there is more chance of pigs flying than me being up for the 9am news! You can find the pod on any major platform, and I would highly recommend.
