Researchers find genetic cause of Raynaud’s phenomenon

A recent study published in Nature Communications has made significant findings related to Raynaud’s phenomenon (RP), a heritable condition that affects blood circulation. RP is characterised by vasospasms in small blood vessels near the skin’s surface, often causing pain, colour changes in the skin, and, in severe cases, ulcers, particularly during cold or emotionally stressful episodes. While affecting 2-5% of the population, RP remains under-investigated, and its genetic causes are poorly understood.

What are your thoughts on the recent research findings that suggest a genetic basis for Raynaud’s phenomenon and its connection to the overactivity of certain genes involved in blood vessel constriction and dilation?
