This year’s G20 presents a good opportunity for UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, to meet and set the new direction of relations with China. Starmer is looking to foster “pragmatic” relations with Chinese President Xi Jinping, which brings a complex difference when compared to prior Conservative governments relations with China.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out, and personally I think it is a good move from Starmer as there is a lot we can collaborate with China on. Furthermore, if Trump adopts a colder relationship with the EU and NATO, then a stronger relationship with China means that he may not take our relationship with the U.S for granted.
