Student Radio is the best thing I've done at university - Here's why!

Joining student radio has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my time at university. It gave me a creative outlet to explore my ideas and share my passions with others. I love curating playlists, discussing niche topics, and making up themes for each episode: the freedom to craft something uniquely mine has been an amazing experience!

It also helped me develop communication skills in ways I hadn’t expected. Speaking live on air taught me how to think on my feet, articulate my thoughts clearly, and connect with an audience. At first, the idea of being “on the spot” felt intimidating, but over time, it became a thrill. Although I’m not all the way there, I think I’m gaining a bit more confidence using my voice every day!

Another highlight was learning the technical side of broadcasting. From operating the soundboard to editing recordings, I gained hands-on experience with equipment and software that felt daunting at first but became second nature. These skills have proven to be surprisingly transferable and look great on a CV.

Perhaps the best part was the sense of community. Student radio is a collaborative effort, and working with other passionate, like-minded people was both inspiring and fun. It’s sort of like a society of people who all love music and yapping, so I thought it was a great fit for me lol!

Being part of student radio is so varied and exciting! It’s an experience I’d recommend to anyone :star_struck:
