The latest British Olympic and Paralympic sport powering positive change

I was told of a PhD interview experience last week, where the interviewer asked the candidates if they could name some of latest athlete trends (this could include questions like, “who currently holds the 200m Breaststroke record”, for example). Of the candidates, only 1 could talk about the latest trends. So, here is a snapshot of the latest from British Olympic and Paralympic sport powering positive change (you never know, it could save you in an interview!) and I will post lots more of this kind of content in future too, to keep you up to date with the latest trends in Sports Science!

:pregnant_woman: Laura Gallagher sits down with BBC Sport to discuss her return to elite sport after pregnancy, but more importantly advocates for the increased importance and greater awareness of pelvic floor health for all female athletes - not just those around pregnancy.

:rowing_woman:t2: The Rivers Trust announce British Rowing star Imogen Grant as one of their new ambassadors. To celebrate this announcement, Imogen’s released a statement sharing an athlete’s perspective on freshwater health, and ultimately why sportspeople care about the health of our rivers.

:field_hockey: Tess Howard wins the Changemaker Award at last week’s Sunday Times Sportswomen of the Year. Fantastic recognition for her work for more inclusive sportswear regulations

:sailboat: For the last two weeks, The True Athlete Project joined The British Sailing Team to further explore the unique role that athletes can play in contributing towards societal change. With the objective of continuing the momentum and move away from ‘inspiration led appearance type activity’, the athletes explored on how they can make a meaningful contribution to a social cause that doesn’t detract from their sporting careers. This was rounded off by the athletes learning how to build a theory of change to help guide any future work.
