The United States vs Itself in 2024

The Eurasia Group has posted an insightful article onto some of the greatest risks of 2024. It has underlined the internal conflict within the U,S as one of the most pertinent,

2024 will see the start of the U.S presidential race to kick off, and this one has the potential to be the messiest ever. With a repeat of 2016 on the table with Biden vs Trump and questions over Biden’s age and legal proceedings being initiated against Trump there are fears from many over who will be the next president.

Trump is incredibly divisive within his own party and amongst Americans. Polarisation is likely to increase in the run up to the elections with tension brewing on both sides. There is a fear that another four years of his tenure will foster division and pose a risk of extreme policy making.

Trump will be keen to control the media, to allow his ‘victim’ narrative to continue to be relayed to his supporters, there is also a chance he could disturb the election process like he attempted to in 2020.

Trump becoming president is also likely to have global consequences if he due to his unwavering support for Israel may fuel the current governments ambitious plans for Palestine. However, support for Ukraine appears to be reluctant.

It is clear that the U,S is heading for tumultuous times, any politics student should watch the situation closely and attempt tor recognise the global geopolitical implications for either candidate getting into power.
