Things to consider when picking a future company

When seeking employment after graduation, it’s crucial to prioritise potential for career advancement. For students, it’s important to understand today’s evolving landscape, characterized by the rise of remote work and increased flexibility from employers. Factors such as work-life balance and company culture have become integral considerations in the job search process.

So, what are some key factor that you need to consider?

Job Roles & Responsibilities:
Align your strengths and weaknesses with the job requirements to ensure a suitable fit. Consider whether the role promotes individual or team-based work, based on your preferences.

Location:
Take into account the commute time to and from work, as it significantly impacts your daily routine. Consider whether the location aligns with your long-term goals and personal commitments. Additionally, factor in the associated costs of transportation, as they can affect your overall financial well-being.

Opportunities for Growth:
Look for companies that offer robust growth programs and opportunities for personal development. Consider whether the company values employee recognition and offers incentives for high performance.

Company Culture/Values:
Ensure alignment between the company’s mission and your personal values. Seek out organizations that foster a culture conducive to long-term engagement and growth.

Benefits: Evaluate the comprehensive benefits packages offered by potential employers, including health coverage, retirement plans, and leave allowances. Consider whether the company supports employee well-being through wellness initiatives and other perks.

Working Hours: Understand the company’s work schedule and flexibility, especially if it involves shift rotations or irregular hours. Consider whether the schedule accommodates your lifestyle and personal commitments.

Salary: While the take-home pay is important, ensure it aligns with industry standards for the position. Assess the overall compensation package, weighing salary against benefits to make an informed decision.

Workplace Environment: Research the workplace conditions and company culture through reviews and testimonials. Consider factors such as company size and employee satisfaction to gauge suitability.

All things that should definitely be considered but for me, I prioritise opportunities for growth and then work schedule flexibility as I feel I am much more happier and productive when I can work at times that suit my other commitments

Personally, I think the most important aspect when looking for a future workplace is the company culture/values alignment. It’s essential to feel like you belong and share the same values as the organization you’re working for. What about you?

Totally agree! Before even applying for a certain job, i check that, while in pursuit of common goals, we share similar values. This is what creates a workplace that makes people feel like they matter and belong there🥰
