Unions call for immediate pause to Ofsted inspections

The article discusses the call by two school-leaders’ unions, the ASCL and NAHT, for an immediate pause to Ofsted inspections following the death of head teacher Ruth Perry. A coroner ruled that an Ofsted inspection had contributed to her suicide in January. Ofsted responded by introducing measures and delaying this week’s inspections, but the unions believe this isn’t sufficient. They’re urging for a pause to inspections to address concerns raised in the inquest. This marks the first time Ofsted has been cited as a contributing factor in a head teacher’s death. Additionally, changes to the inspection system are being discussed, including altering the confidentiality requirement for head teachers and expediting reinspections for schools graded inadequate solely over safeguarding concerns.
