The Royal Parks volunteering program is a great way to gain experience for your CV in a less competitive environment and give back to the London community. They have many opportunities that are well suited for environmental students and heritage management which is great for history students. They run one-off events and training that are drop-ins and more committed roles where you are expected to volunteer at least once a week which is great for students who need flexibility in their schedules.
Types of Opportunities:
- Wildlife conservation: drop-in opportunities to upkeep the parks’ habitats
- Gardening and growing: weekly garden, nursery, or allotment planting and upkeep sessions
- Heritage: opportunities to share historical information with guests and opportunities for archeological digs around London
- Learning and engagement: walking tour, park ranger, and teaching at the Hyde Park learning center
