Wales' first brain tumour hub announced

Alex Aghili Kordmahale, from Monmouthshire, was diagnosed with a brain tumor after a sudden seizure, despite having no prior symptoms. The tumor, which had likely been growing for years, required immediate surgery. Seven years later, Alex has mostly rebuilt her life but still faces challenges, including the fear of tumor recurrence and ongoing health issues that prevent her from returning to work or horse riding.

Her diagnosis profoundly impacted her family and finances. In response to the need for more research, Cancer Research Wales has launched the nation’s first brain tumor research hub, aiming to invest up to £1 million annually. The initiative seeks to address the historical lack of funding in brain tumor research, improve patient outcomes, and connect Wales with global research efforts.
