What career to pursue if you're an established book lover

For most of us, reading is an opportunity to escape from the daily hustle and have a good time immersed in a fascinating story. But there are also those who cannot imagine their life without books, and dreams of choosing a profession related to literature. And if you happen to be one of those people who studied to pursue a career that’s somewhat related to books and reading? This list is for you!

The obvious one - Writer
If you ask the question for which professions literature is needed, then the writer is the first one to be remembered. Thanks to the work of these people, we can enjoy interesting and exciting works of art. They also write articles, scripts, plots for commercials. Writers spend most of their working time on a laptop. They do not have an official place of work, so they are not bound by official duties and can plan their own day.

Librarian
This job is suitable for those who love books, but do not have creative talent. The functions of the librarian include storage, registration, issuance of works and interaction with visitors. A good specialist will always help you choose the required book, tell you about new arrivals, and where to find the right book.

Literary critic
There is an opinion that such specialisation is chosen by those who failed to become writers. However, the functions of a literary critic include the analysis and evaluation of literary works, they have a significant influence on readers, as they help to form their tastes. This specialty presupposes a deep knowledge of the theory and history of literature, a huge baggage of books read, constant study of novelties and reviews compiled by his colleagues.

Proofreader
Another specialty directly related to literature. Before the finished text (article, book, etc.) is printed or published, it must be proofread. The task of this specialist is to check the material for errors and typos (grammatical, punctuation, spelling, stylistic, speech). It is necessary to detect all inconsistencies with language norms, eliminate them and only after that transfer it to the editor. To become a proofreader, you should thoroughly know all the rules and norms of the language, be literate and diligent.

Editor
No publishing house can function without an editor. It depends on them how the book or article will look in the end. The tasks of this specialist include monitoring compliance with genre criteria, correcting errors, and choosing the design.

Journalist
Journalists are people who collect, process and distribute information. The task of a journalist is to find an interesting event, collect material about it, analyse information, write a text, prepare photos and videos from the scene. It largely depends on the journalist how the incident will be perceived by readers or viewers.

Copywriter
This is a person who writes commercial or informational texts in accordance with the task received from the customer. Some of the copywriters work in organisations. But most of them are self–employed people who work for themselves. Anyone can become a copywriter, regardless of gender, age, education and social status. The main thing is to be able to create high–quality and competent texts.

Translator
The translator of literary texts is a difficult specialty. Not everyone can cope with such work, even if they are fluent in languages. After all, it is required not only to translate the text, but also to adapt it to the subtleties of another language. At the same time, it is important to convey the whole essence and depth of the original work. Therefore, one cannot do without literary talent in this field.

Language/Literature teacher
The teaching profession is always in demand. Especially when it comes to teachers of language and literature. Specialists in this field are welcome in schools, universities, colleges. The main thing to remember is that in order to be a teacher, it is not enough to love books. It is important to have pedagogical talent, sociability, and the ability to establish relationships with children.

There are many professions related to literature - the list is quite diverse. Therefore, when making a decision, you should also take into account your other qualities and skills, and I’m quite confident that you will be able to pick a career that is both: connected to one of your hobbies and is fun for you to pursue!
