You May Be Increasing Your Skin Cancer Risk Without Knowing It

Skin cancer rates are soaring, with a 27% increase in invasive melanoma cases in the past decade. A study suggests a potential cause: the misconception that sunscreen allows safe tanning. Dermatologists emphasise that any form of tanning damages the skin, accelerating ageing and increasing the risk of all skin cancer types. Prevention involves early detection, with risk factors including excessive sun exposure, sunburn tendency, family history, and previous skin cancer diagnoses. To reduce risks, experts recommend proper sunscreen use, year-round protection, indoor sunscreen application, and regular skin checks.

What steps do you currently take to protect your skin from the risks of skin cancer, considering the recent surge in cases and the potential misconception about sunscreen use?
