Can you rely on your mammogram to identify heart disease risk?

Some radiology practices are now offering an additional screening during annual mammograms to assess heart disease risk by detecting calcifications in breast arteries using artificial intelligence (AI). While this type of calcification has been linked to cardiovascular disease risk, experts caution that it’s not as well-established as coronary artery calcification, and many heart issues occur even without visible calcifications. The screening is gaining attention, but more studies are needed to prove its effectiveness in changing patient outcomes and reducing heart attacks or strokes.
