A recent study found that people with high blood pressure may lower their risk of dementia by consuming moderate amounts of coffee or tea. Specifically, drinking one-half to one cup of coffee or four to five cups of tea daily was associated with the lowest dementia risk. The study examined over 453,000 participants and noted a J-shaped relationship between coffee consumption and dementia risk, and a U-shaped relationship for tea. However, no link between tea or coffee consumption and dementia was found in people without high blood pressure. Researchers suggest caffeine may offer some protective benefits, but more data is needed.

Really interesting to see how caffeinated drinks may impact dementia risk, is this the first study of its kind or are their other methods that may reduce dementia risk ?
That’s so interesting! I had no idea that something as simple as drinking coffee or tea could potentially help reduce dementia risk in people with high blood pressure. Do you think the type of tea or coffee matters in terms of these protective benefits, or is it more about the caffeine in general? Also, why do you think the study found no link for people without high blood pressure?
