Two new dementia risks identified by major report

A major report suggests that treating failing eyesight and high cholesterol are among new strategies to lower the risk of developing dementia. Scientists have identified 14 health issues that, if addressed, could potentially prevent nearly half of dementia cases globally. Middle-aged people and those in poorer countries stand to benefit the most. The Lancet Commission predicts that dementia cases could more than double to 153 million by 2050. Recommendations include improving access to hearing aids, education, and treatment for high cholesterol, promoting exercise, reducing high blood pressure, and addressing social isolation and air pollution. Lead author Prof. Gill Livingston emphasizes that itโ€™s never too early or late to take action to reduce dementia risk.
