Do you feel your degree prepares you sufficiently for work?

In computer science and related degrees, you would cover a range of models to prepare you for the different fields, just like with all degrees. But I’m wondering, do you feel your degree is sufficiently preparing you for work, for all degrees whether computer science, international relations, law, biomedical sciences, etc?

That’s really good to hear that your degree gave you a lot of the skills necessary for work!

Good question! Honestly, I don’t think so. In my experience studying marketing, the degree provides a good foundation, but real-world experience and internships are crucial

My degree has definitely provided me with the information and analytical skills to have a more nuanced view on complex subjects. I think this is so important in politics as many people tend to be so narrow minded.

Navigating the transition from academia to the professional world after graduating with a degree in biomedical science has been an eye-opening experience for me. While I deeply enjoyed delving into the theoretical aspects of biomedical science during my studies, I realised post-graduation that there were significant gaps in practical knowledge, particularly regarding essential steps like obtaining registration with the HCPC for NHS roles.

This experience highlighted a broader issue in higher education, where there’s sometimes a disconnect between academic curriculum and real-world professional requirements. Despite this, I believe my degree equipped me with valuable critical thinking and problem-solving skills that are transferable across various fields, underscoring the importance of ongoing efforts to bridge the gap between academia and industry readiness for graduates across all disciplines. How about your experience? Do you feel your degree adequately prepared you for the workforce?
